Mt. Fuji seen from Satta Pass
I visited Satta pass on Jan. 25, 2008
Mt. Fuji seen from the parking lot of Satta pass. Six or seven cars can be parked here.
in "Fifty-three stages of the Tokaido (Tohkaidoh)" by ANDO (ANDOH) Hiroshige, you would see "Yui- Satta-Mine".
and in "Fuji Thirty-six Scenery"by ANDO Hiroshige, you would see "Suruga-Satta-no-Kaijo (Kaijoh)".
where, "Mine" means peak or mountain pass, and "Kaijo" means sea, that is, Suruga Bay.Let's compare the current scenery by photos with the ukiyoe print by Hiroshige.

Walking along the pass road towards Okitsu from the parking lot for about three minutes,
you would arrive at the observatory.
Let's see the scenery from the observatory.
A bunch of the main lines is seen. Gulf of Suruga spreads out. A range of Ashitaka is seen on the right side.
Mt. Fuji seen from the observatory of Satta pass
The mountains just before Fuji are Mt. Daimaru, Mt. Ohira(Oh-hira) and Mt. Kanamaru.
This place would be supposed to be the point that is painted on the upper left corner
of that picture "Yui- Satta-Mine" by Hiroshige.
You would reach this place after walking towards Okitsu from an observatory for one more minute.

A little walk towards Yui from the parking lot of the pass will take you to this monument.
Izu Peninsula is seen over Suruga Bay.
I will add the scenery seen from the Yui PA of the Tomei Expressway on Feb. 13, 2008.
This road seems to have been the road of the shoreline in old days.
