Fuji seen from Tokaido (Tohkaidoh) Kanaya

Kanaya is one of the stages of the old main artery "Tokaido" together with Shimada.

Makinohara Park, adjacent in Route 473, Kanaya in Shimada city
is about 75 km from Mt. Fuji, and is located the southwest of Mt. Fuji.

From this place, the landscape spread out below.

Let's make the viewing angle narrow for Mt. Fuji.

The west Kanaya stage (hotel) is this side of the river, and the east Shimada stage is on the other side.

It has been considered to be a difficult place outstanding of Tokaido for travelers at that time.
When travelers would cross the Oi(or Ohi) River connecting Shimada stage and Kanaya stage,
they had to be carried on the shoulder by the carrier crossing the river on foot.

The followings are well-known songs

1. Mago-uta (Songs by Horse drivers)

"Hakone-hachiri wa uma de mo kosu ga, kosu ni kosarenu Ohigawa"

My translation is as follows;

"Possible to cross over the mountains of Hakone on horseback.
Impossible to cross the Oi River swollen by heavy rain, however."

2. Haiku by Basho (MATSUO Bashoh)

"Umakata wa shiraji shigure no Ohi-gawa"

My translation is as follows;

"A horse driver carrying me up to Kanaya might not know
my hard crossing over the Ohi river in a shower to Shimada. "

Well, both Hokusai and Hiroshige draw the scenery of the crossing over from the Kanaya side.

Fuji is drawn in the picture of Hokusai.

Well, let's set the size of the photo to that of the ukiyoe print.
