Maples on March 06,2004

In Japan, we have warmer days in February, but colder days again in the beginning of March. According to the forecast of cherry blossoms, spring seems to come earlier than usual this year. We are impatient for spring !

Let me show you maples on March 06, 2004

Firstly, I will show you members of tatarian maple, whose leaves seem to appear earlier than those of other maples. Karakogikaede (Acer tataricum ssp. aidzuense) from Japan belongs to these maples, but its leaves have not appeared yet at present.

The species of the left below is distributed from southeastern Europe to western Asia, i.e. from Austria to Turkey and southern Russia. The middle one is distributed around China. The right one is among these areas, i.e. from northern Afghanistan, kazakhstan to Tianshan mountains.

Acer tataricum ssp. tataricum

Acer tataricum ssp. ginnala

Acer tataricum ssp. semenovii

What's more, leaves of the following 5 species of maples began to appear.

Acer oliverianum

Acer stachyophyllum

Acer buergerianum

Acer tschonoskii

Acer cordatum

Seed leaves

Well, as for seed leaves, the upper one is those of "great maple" (Acer pseudoplatanus),
the middle Acer cinnamomifolium, the lower Hitotsubakaede (Acer distylum).
