Visit to Sesshu Garden of Mampuku-ji Temple

25-33 Higashi- machi Masuda city Pref. Shimane

I visited here on Oct. 13, 2008

According to Brochure, "This garden was made by Priest Sesshu Zenji in 1479. It is a rock garden, of the buddhist temple style, symbolizing the Shumisen world (World of the Buddhism). The Shumisen Stone is at the center. It is a little dark at the right side where are an artificial hill and the dry waterfall. The left side of the garden is made smooth and very bright.
Brightness and darkness is composed skillfully. ...... "

The artificial hill "Tsukiyama" with a gentle ascent at the back,
The shape of the pond is like the Japanese character for heart

As the pamphlet says, the left side of this garden is a bright world.

The Shumisen Stone at the top of the artificial hill, The Zen meditation stone whose top is flat of this way

Trees of the grove make the garden dark at the right side.
The dry waterfall at the center, the cape of this side, and The Hohrai Stone seen at the center back

It was impressive that the artificial hill "Tsukiyama", with a gentle ascent, made me associate the Shumisen world or the Mandala world.
