Fuji seen from Maisaka

It is said that Lake Hamana was located on the north of the Pacific Ocean before
and that they were connected at the gate of Imagire-guchi by an earthquake in 1498.
At the same time, the western Arai-cho and the eastern Maisaka-cho were disconnected by the earthquake,
and the transport between Arai and Maisaka in Edo era was the sailingboat.

And they are joined with many bridges including the Hamana-Ohashi at present.

　Firstly, let me show you "Maisaka (Imagire Shinkei)" of "Fifty-three stages of the Tokaido" by UTAGAWA Hiroshige.

I visited the Maisaka stage(inn), Maisaka museum (library) and the Arai barrier "Sekisho" on April 08, 2008.

Photo below shows the position of the Maisaka inn.
Those locations are also shown, such as the North Pier of the Maisaka inn "Kita-Gange",
the pine colonnade "Matsu-namiki" along the old main artery "Tokaido",
the sub-inn "Waki-Honjin" at Maisaka , and the Japanese milestone "Ichiri-tsuka".

I visited the Arai barrier, the opposite western side of Maisaka.

The vestige of the Arai barrier, located on the west side of Imagire where Lake Hamana leads to the Pacific Ocean.

Six pieces of Ukiyo-e panels by Hiroshige are placed on the sidewalk of the Hamana bridge
located on the east of the Arai barrier.

In this picture is drawn Fuji seen from Imagire near Maisaka.

Sails of the ferryboats are drawn, the mountains of this side are emphasized largely.
On the other hand, Fuji is depicted symbolically in the back right.
