323 Hyakusaiji-cho Higashi-Ohmi City Shiga Pref.

Hyakusaiji Temple was built about 1400 years ago.

Being painted vermilion, the Main gate "Sanmon", the entrance for the approach, is called Red Gate.

The view of Kiken-in Garden you see first of all soon after passing through the Gate of "The World Distant View Garden"

Going around pond style Garden, composed of a pond & large stones against the background of the east hills

A View of the garden seen from the east high place called "The hill for a Distant view of the world"

Let's see the world from the hill !

Upper : The Gate of "The World Distant View Garden"
We could get a distant view of Kotoh Plain in the west,
but could not see Lake Biwa & Mt. Hiei with mist on the day we visited.
On the equinox days twice a year the sun sets in due west just Mt. Hiei from this point.
Another 800 km west of Mt. Hiei there was an old nation "Kudara" about 1400 years ago.

I wonder, how the people from overseas did see the other side in the west for their home from this garden?

The long formal approach from the main gate to the main hall
Both sides of the approach are stone fences with maples.

Climbing the stone steps, you will see the main Hall suddenly appear from the back of the stone fence with maples.

It is truly said that it's a noted place for maples.
