Planten un Blomen in Hamburg, Germany

Planten un Blomen is located in Hamburg City.
We went through the park by 30 minute walk on Sep. 26th, 2003.

Norway maples, Great maples and Hedge maples were frequently seen
not only in Hamburg City as roadside trees but also in all over this park.

In this park we saw not only Montpellier maple from France,
Paperbark maple from China and Silver maple from North America,
but also Japanese maples and their cultivars as well as Japanese garden.

Beginning to walk, we saw Paperbark maple from China
whose bark are like paper and appear to be peeled off easily.
Form of leaves and seed is similar to those of Nikko maple from Japan.

We saw Montpellier maple from France next.
Leaves are thicker than those of Japanese maples,
and have characteristic 3 lobes and their upper surface are glossy.

On the following maple I don't know its name,
but I am sure it belongs to the group of striped maples.
It has large leaves and its twigs have white stripes,
then it may be Striped maple (Acer pensylvanicum) or
Amur'scher Ahorn (Acer tegmentosum) or their cultivars and the like.
In any case I was surprised at the large leaves 10-16cm wide and15-20cm long.

Maybe some cultivar of Acer * conspicuum
( Acer davidii *Acer pensylvanicum ?)
